We caught up with Lola on the inspiration behind the song, how her upbringing living by the ocean in South Africa shapes her songwriting, and the beauty of noticing the moments we’re in…

Hi Lola, how are you?

I'm really good, thank you! Feeling very excited to finally share this song with the world.

What made you want to capture that feeling in this song?

Because life moves so quickly. I wanted to create something that reminds us to notice the moments we're in. 

Were there any specific memories that inspired the lyrics?

Lots of little ones rather than one big one. Growing up by the ocean in South Africa definitely shaped it, my soul lives and craves the ocean. 

How do you stay grounded?

Going home. Being with my family. My dog Yuki. Walking on the beach. Spending time in nature is a big one for me. Noticing the magic or the everyday. Wanting without expectations. Those things always remind me. 

Has songwriting become therapy for you?

Absolutely. Now I make sense of the world. Sometimes I don't even realise how I'm feeling until I've written a song about it.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Keep dreaming embarrassingly big. Don't wait until you feel ready, because you'll never feel ready. The magic usually starts once you begin.

If you could soundtrack one perfect summer Sunday, what would it look like?

Cape Town. My family. My friends. A beach, a braai, lots of laughter. music playing in the background. Someone insisting they don't need sunscreen... and then immediately getting sunburnt. Those imperfect little moments are usually the perfect ones.

What do you hope listeners take away from the song?

Presence. I hope it reminds people that today's ordinary moments are tomorrow's favourite memories.
