Livvy Lauren’s journey to her debut single has been one full of rich musical influence and personal growth. From being immersed in old-school soul and studying musical theatre to confronting the debilitating effects of ADHD, Livvy aims to unite listeners with her resonant, heartfelt songwriting and empowering passion. In sharing the path that led to her captivating debut single, "Felt Love," she breaks down the factors that have shaped her into the artist she is today.
For Livvy, her love for music spawned at a young age."The first music I fell in love with was actually classical music! My mum would always play Andrea Bocelli around the house, and I found myself singing along when I was literally around four years old," she recalls. This early passion ignited a desire for proper training, leading her to embark on classical music lessons, which built the foundation of her musical identity.
With a diverse background in theatre, jazz, and performance, Livvy has always been intertwined with the arts. However, it was during her university years that she discovered the transformative power of songwriting. “I found myself writing a lot of music almost as a form of therapy! Whenever I was stressed or down, I used songwriting to release my emotions,” she explains. This realization became a turning point in her career. After leaving university, Livvy embraced songwriting and sent music to producers, receiving enthusiastic feedback that sparked her passion and led her to pursue music as a professional career.
A standout moment in Livvy’s blossoming career was writing her debut “Felt Love” at the iconic Abbey Road Studios alongside producer Jungle Boi. The atmosphere of such a legendary place was palpable, and somewhat comforting. “Writing the track at Abbey road with Jungleboi was such a fun and relaxed experience” she reflects, “I love the studios there, and always feel at home working in their space. We had quite a cosy room for this writing session, which was really lovely as it was super intimate and just felt like the perfect place to be creative and write fun and passionate lyrics! We actually wrote the whole track in about 3 hours which I always prefer as it feels more organic, real and raw this way.. and not too over thought. Sessions like these ones are always the best as I leave feeling like I am on cloud 9. “
In an industry where social media often dictates perceptions, Livvy Lauren uses music to remind listeners that life isn’t always easy. "I hope to uplift and empower people through my music, making them feel better while relating to my experiences," she shares passionately.
“After years of therapy, I learned that writing could be a powerful form of therapy,” she reflects. “I’ve always been encouraged to journal my thoughts and feelings to gain clarity. With my ADHD, I struggle with guilt if I’m not productive, making downtime hard for me. Songwriting became a way to merge my need for accomplishment with emotional release.”
Livvy firmly believes in the importance of authenticity to her music, which is shaped by these personal challenges. "To create good music, you have to be truly transparent and honest within your writing," she states. Drawing inspiration from her own experiences and those of people around them, she seeks relatability. “I think a lot of young adults experience feelings of anxiety and stress. By sharing these struggles, I hope to connect with listeners and inspire them to confront their feelings with confidence.”
This commitment to authenticity extends beyond her songwriting; Livvy strives to portray a genuine version of herself on social media. “It’s tough to be your true self in a world filled with expectations. I want people to connect with me through my honesty,” she explains.
Fusing RnB, house, and pop, Livvy aims to create music that uplifts and gets people dancing. "After being diagnosed with ADHD, I understood my hyperactivity better and wanted to write music that reflects that energy,” she reveals. Her goal is to create songs that tell true stories—often about pain and struggles—but with an uplifting, empowering spin. “A great beat and catchy melody can instantly make you want to move, and dancing is a fantastic way to relieve stress,” she adds.
“I’ve been inspired by many genres throughout my life, from classical to jazz and R&B!” she says. Currently, Livvy is experimenting with Afro-beat influences, a genre that resonates with the danceable vibe she wants to create through her songs.
Following a period of experimentation and collaboration with producers, Livvy experienced a significant breakthrough when “Felt Love” was featured on the hit TV show Love Island - yet she’s already embracing the next chapter. “This industry is tough, and being vulnerable can be scary! I want everything to happen at 100 miles an hour. After a release, I’m already thinking about the next one,” she admits. Luckily, the exposure from the show provided a confidence boost and motivation to continue aiming high.
Reflecting on the pressure she put on herself, Livvy shares, “I often forget to applaud myself for the small wins. I try to take time to reflect on how far I’ve come. If I told myself last year that I’d have a single played on Love Island this year, I would have been so proud!”
As she precedes to carve a space in the industry with her distinct sound, Livvy Lauren has ambitious long-term goal, with her sights set on a lasting impression on 2025,“I dream of performing at major UK festivals and appearing on a BBC live lounge session. Making it onto the UK official charts is my most important goal right now!”
